Question Description
I’m working on a history discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
After listening to the episodes “An Early Writing Tablet” and “Indus Seal” AND watching the videos on Mohenjo Daro under the heading WATCH, answer the following questions:Compare the development of writing in Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. Although we know writing existed from the seals in the Indus Valley, we have yet to decipher it. Your textbook says the following about our inability to read Harrappan writing, “Thus, some historians call this civilization proto-historic, distinguishing it from both prehistoric cultures that have no writing and historic ones with written sources that we can read.” Comment on the merit of this statement and what it says about the limits of using history to study the past. What other evidence can scholars use to explore Harappan culture?
