Attention: What do you think about the direct implication of not smoking?
II.
Topic: if you think that it contributes to a better lifestyle and healthy living, you are absolutely
right. Smoking cessation is a vital step in enhancing the length and quality of living for people who
do not smoke and people who are planning to quit smoking.
III.
Credibility: According to the American Cancer society, cigarette smoking increases the risk of
mouth and throat cancer, lung, kidney, bladder, stomach, pancreas, return, colon and liver, as
well as acute myeloid leukemia. Half of the Americans are at the risk of losing their lives from a
smoking-related illness (Sosnowski).Thus, a little help and guide can help one another to quit
smoking like it has done to a million of them who have approached for help!
IV.
Preview: Today, the subject that we are discussing here are the health benefits followed by the
strategies to quit smoking.
Body
I.
There are both immediate and long-term benefits of quit smoking.
A. Some immediate health benefits of quitting smoking can be of substantial importance
1. Improved heart rate, blood pressure, functioning of lung and lowers the risk of
cancer, chronic and heart disease. (Sumartiningsih, 1032.).
2. The level of carbon monoxide in blood starts to decline which improved the blood
circulation and produces less phlegm.
B. Smoking contributes to long term complications and life-related risk.
1. The US National Health Interview Survey cites that smokers quitting to smoke before
40 years reduce the risk of premature deaths by 90% (“Harms of Cigarette
Smoking”).
2. The individuals falling in the age category 25-34 tend to live 10 years longer and
smokers aged 70 and above who have quit smoking have lowered the risk of
mortality (“Harms of Cigarette Smoking”).
3. Continued smoking can lead to peptic ulcer disease, reproductive health
complication, osteoporosis and coronary heart disease. Passive smoking have also
contributed to problems like SIDS, asthma and breathing problems, hearing loss and
ear infections.
II.
The list of strategies that can help to quit smoking are:
A. Adopt a START strategy.
1. Set a quit date, Tell your friends and family about your plan and seek support,
Anticipate and plan the challenges that you might face like a withdrawal symptom,
Remove cigarettes and other tobacco products and Talk to your doctor for prescribed
medication.
B. The withdrawal symptoms and cravings can be suppressed using few successful
methods like nicotine replacement therapy and non-nicotine medication.
C. Alternative therapies like hypnosis, acupuncture, behavioral therapy, motivational and
medical therapies can help smokers to quit smoking.
D. Counseling when used along with medication can help one to reduce smoking.
E. Adopt skills training and problem solving methods to decrease the risks of relapse and
smoking.
Conclusion
I. Summary: I consider this an opportunity to talk about the health benefits and strategies related
to quit smoking and help the smoker category people to try and experience the change.
II. Close: According to Warner et al. (43), quitting smoking directly adds up 10 years to lifespan in
comparison to continued smoking. One is prone to reduce the risk to a greater extent if smoking is quit at
a younger age.
